Character Analysis of Higher Learning

        Remy is the character in the movie “Higher Learning” that I am analyzing. As a freshman student in Columbus University, Remy is from Boise in Idaho.

One of the most critical experiences of Remy is to join the Neo-Nazis. He becomes a different person after that. At the beginning of the story, he is a hard-working and average student. But the night before the first class, a lot of students are having a noisy party. Remy cannot sleep and calls the security after he argued with Fudge. When the party is ordered to end, Fudge and his friends are very angry at Remy. This is the cause of the conflict. A few days later, Fudge put on loud music while Remy is studying. But Remy is afraid and does nothing in this situation. He leaves to study and moves out. This makes Remy uncomfortable to face the groups of Fudge. Remy is not good at communicating with others, he is always alone at the party, and he cannot find a close friend. However, after joining the Neo-Nazis, he finds friendship from a group of violent students. He takes out a gun after Malik says something bad to him, and he plans to revenge. Remy’s change is in a negative way. Previously he calls the security to deal with the issue, or walk away, or keep quiet when there is a conflict. But with a gun and some bad friends around, he cannot control his anger. He trashes his room, but it does not help. So he takes out his gun and plan for a future revenge. He just use violence to deal with problems, it only creates bigger problems.  As a result, at the Peace Festival, Remy stays at a rooftop with a gun. When the Neo-Nazis attract the attention of the security, Remy shoots at people. Malik catches Remy in the stairway, and they fight with each other. When the security arrives, Malik is beaten. Remy cannot find anyway to escape; he apologizes to Malik and shoots himself.

Tyrannosaurus

Dinosaurs are a big part of our history. They lived on the earth much earlier before human beings. Millions of years ago, great beasts called "dinosaurs” wandered over the earth.

There were different types of dinosaurs, some were big, some were small; some ate plants, some ate meat; some lived on the land, some lived in the water, and some flied in the sky. I am very fond of Tyrannosaurus, a huge meat-eating dinosaur. When I was a little boy, the most powerful image on TV is a giant dinosaur. It was the king of the dinosaur world. It looked very cool, even though it sometimes bullied others.

The most famous in the family is T. rex, they are among the last dinosaurs on the planet, around 80 million years ago. Their bones were hollow, like a bird’s bones. It had pointed teeth to rip meat. They were 40 feet long, about 20 feet tall. T-Rex had a huge head. They had tiny arms, only three feet long. There were two fingers on each arm. But their legs were strong and powerful. Each foot had three large toes. T-rex had a big and strong tail for balance, which helped a lot make quick turns while running. Some people think it can run very fast. But some scientists recently estimated it was not a fast runner. T-Rex was one of the biggest of the meat-eating dinosaurs who could eat other dinosaurs. They weighed 5 to 7 tons. Scientists believe it could eat up to 500 pounds. We don't yet know for sure, but there is good reason to believe that female T. Rex outweighed their males.

They lived in the United States, in Canada and in Asia. T-Rex was one the last of the dinosaurs on the earth. At that time, the weather was warmer. The sea level was much higher. We do not know why T-rex disappeared from our earth. It is still a mystery.

Creativity

           James Cameras said "Kids read the book and through the author's description, put something on the movie screen in our heads, to print, to draw. That is the creativity." All of us did this when we was a little child. And all of us had the creativity when we born. But when we grow up, we might lose a lot of creativity for many reasons. Also we want to get it back and use it in our life or study. There are three ways that we can get creativity back.
           The first way is be curiosity about everything. Mr. Javage showed three characters in the lecture and how they could success. For example, The first character asked his father why the ball will move after the truck is moving, he was very curiosity about this question. So that he discover the world famous principle. Another character found himself on the water when the sunlight shot at the water, he was thinking a lot and finally he work out how long the earth is. It happened in 2000 years ago. It is very amazing to discover a lot of principle of the world.
           The second one is listening the music. We listening music in everywhere, but we just listen very roughly. In my experience, when we close eyes to enjoy a music, there are serval things will appear in our mind. I think it also can practice our creative skill. But if you are a musician, you must creative some music to play. However, there is not everyone like the music, which you creative somebody think your music is a mistake. But a musician who name is Setfon Harris said: "Many actions are perceived as mistakes only because we do not react to their appropriately." I think the musician will feel more comfortable when they creative a song that nobody would enjoy in it.
            The last one is pay attention to do everything. I always get a great ideas at a moment, but after a few second I complete forget it. Because I always have mind-wandering. Mr. Tmm said mind-wandering is the most special skill of human compare with the other animals.  There is 30% of mind-wandering in our life time. So if we want to get a great creativity. We should pay attention to do anything. Do not waste the good idea when you get it at one moment. It is better to do it as soon as possible. 
            At last but not least, everyone has their own creativity. We should be curiosity about everything in our life. You will find the world is beautiful and full of excited, also it will be creativity. When we listen to the music, we can imagine a world, which is belongs to you. At the same time, music is medicine. In addition, pay attention to do anything, it is a good ability to everyone. And Camerons said: "Whatever you doing, failure is an option, but fear is not." You will be success from your creativity.

My story

     Most likely we all have some regulations in the school. For example, come to class on time, or submit your homework on time. But students in China may have more requirements from primary school to senior high school.

     For my school, one rule is to wear the same uniforms when we enter the school. But I do not think the uniform designers have a good taste of art. The uniform for boys and girls are quite similar in style and color. It looks like wearing pajamas to school.

     To make things worse, we are required to have very short haircut. But most teenager boys in high schools would like to be different from others. When I studied in the junior high school, my hair was long. Long hair makes me not only look cool, but also attract more attention from girls. It happened that our president was very strict and would like all boys in short haircut.

     Every Monday morning, we have special inspectors to check everyone's hairstyle. My friend and I always arrived at school much earlier to avoid the insprction. But one day the president went to each class to check the hairstyle. Escape from the inspection is mission impossible. We were found and he gave us a haircut in the school by himself. I was vey angry.

     I hope some change will happen in the near future. We want to have more freedom and space for ourselves.

Thinking of hand-held cellphone law

        I read a piece of news about hand-held cellphone law. It made me a lot of thinking. For a new law. It was hard to people accept it at the beginning. But I think almost laws had the same situation. It took time to become the part of the culture. For example, when the seat belt law went to effect, not everyone did it, and not everyone liked it. But after a longtime almost all people known to use seat belt, and it had become a part of culture. In other worlds. It was dangerous to the driver and dangerous to the passengers, and dangerous to other people who walking on the road. Using hand-held cellphone law during driving shows little respect and responsibility to other people's life. My suggestion is not to use hand-held cellphone when you are driving. But if it happens we need to use it. It is better than try some other ways to do that.

experiences in student organization activity

             I attended a student organization activity with my friend in a few weeks ago. I was very surprised at the large number of student's organizations. This was my first time for me to come to such a big event in WIU. Everything was new to me. I even did not know where to start. I saw a lot of smiling faces. I was very happy to see a Chinese face.  And the girl greeted me. So I walked there and we had a talk. The name of the organization was International Friendship Club. It organized different activities on campus to promote better communication understanding among people from different countries. I was very interested, so I asked some questions about the organization. There were 50 members in this group. They meet in the multiculture center at 5:00 pm every Thursday. I was very invited to join this group, and I look forward to many new friends.

Childhood

        Time always faded our childhood memories, but it never washed away my memory of my childhood. I was very interested to play with mud when I was a little boy.

         I was the only kid in my family, and I got too much attention, which sometimes can be annoying. I also got a lot of toys with different colors and designs. But I love the most is to play with mud by myself at that time. I took full control over the mud. And I could decide everything. This game could be very creative. I could make up something that never existed before, and did not need to worry about other’s opinions. It was full of possibilities. It was easy to build and easy to destroy. I felt very free when I playing this ‘game’. I could use my imagination and talents. I could make it very simple, such as building a dam; I could also make it very difficult, such as building a small city.

         This is just a little part of my childhood’s life, but whenever I think of those moments, I can not help feeling the true happiness from the bottom of my heart, because happiness can be found from something simple and trifle.
